Building Site, Model & Some Excellent Work-wear!

A Fabulous shoot a few weeks back on a Mid Suffolk building site for a strong and reputable tough clothing brand using an actual carpenter as the model – a long but thoroughly enjoyable shoot.

The weather gods played ball and provided pretty good conditions – of course it can always be better (i mean, what photographer doesn’t criticise the light!) but on the whole I had enough to work with, added by two or three studio strobes and the odd reflector.

A potential career change for the model Anthony, should the carpentry work ever dry up!

Fun Advertising Shoot in a Suffolk Warehouse

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of popping along to a warehouse in Suffolk to shoot images for an upcoming advertising campaign… a gritty and tough image was the brief.

Finding a dark corner of the warehouse, I setup a temporary studio, three strobes, a couple of reflectors and a trusty tripod.

What followed was an interesting shoot with a range of power tools and props, with images supplied to the advertising agency ready for their national campaign.

In Sunny Lowestoft with Access Community

I was recently back in sunny (well, it was damp & cloudy actually… in fact the amazing backdrops made it feel sunny!) Lowestoft to work with the fabulous Access Community, shooting material of their passionate staff, amazing volunteers and dedicated service users.

I traveled to a few of their sites, meeting some really passionate people who are making change in the Suffolk community – certainly not an easy job in our time of constant social care cuts – but the determination shines through and it’s down to organisations like these that help to shape our communities for the better and I feel privileged to be able to provide some form of photographic record of this.

Chelmsford Academic Photo Shoot

Enjoyed a wonderful shoot in Chelmsford recently, with the detailed brief asking me to shoot a range of portraiture of academics in their area of research for future editorial and pr use.

Not only were the subject matter great to work with, but I found myself becoming immersed in the stories of their research and development.

A group of incredibly interesting individuals.

Portraiture at Anglia Ruskin | Cambridge

Rather privileged to head back to Anglia Ruskin University to work with a marketing client, obtaining a selection of editorial portraiture for their forthcoming PR use.
Using the interesting surroundings of the Lord Ashcroft Business School, we managed to dodge the harsh sunlight, employ the use of a couple of reflectors and then add a little fill light with a couple of soft boxes

Sunny autumn shoot in Blickling

Enjoyed a sunny and almost summer like shoot a couple of weeks ago at Blicklling with the Brown & Kemp Family.

The sun was (photographers never happy!) rather bright, but thanks to some reflectors and external strobes we managed to shoot some lovely images – I’m particularly pleased that the dog even played ball! (not literally) bookings for shoots in winter or spring are being taken –  www.byjulian.com

Recent shoot with British Superbike Rider Luke Mossey

He’s a few more images from the recent shoot with British Superbike Rider Luke Mossey.

We moved around a little, shooting a few images of Luke in his race gear outside and in the countryside, but the barn was the real winner location wise.
While the light outside was a little harsh, inside the open fronted barn it proved just right. I used a couple of small strobes, two portable soft boxes and a reflector.. worked a treat in helping to create a slightly more stylish look.

A Suffolk Woodturner

Recently I spent time with Andy Coates, a professional woodturner based in Beccles. I’m working on a magazine feature exploring the wonders that Andy creates.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning, learning about the industry and watchingAndy turn an ordinary piece of wood into something rather exquisite…

The contemporary pieces that Andy creates are really quite something and unlike anything I’ve seen before.
