Event Photography Awards Shortlist

Delighted to announce I’ve been shortlisted for the 2019 Event Photography Awards. The image in question was a capture during a hectic morning shoot in one of the kitchens at a Cambridge College.

Commercial kitchens are never the easiest places to shoot, limited on time, space and equipment. Thankfully several elements seemed to come together and with careful planning the capture was complete.

It’s always a pleasure to be recognised in a national photographic award and especially one that is so hotly contested within the event and commercial photographic world.

Norfolk Broads Charity Photographic Workshop

In association with the fabulous Norfolk Charity Big C I’m running a photographic workshop on the Broads this Spring.

Join me for a wonderful afternoon on the Norfolk Broads, learning about photographic techniques and getting the most from your camera equipment.
Starting at 2pm, we will spend the afternoon shooting in two locations and then finish with an atmospheric sunset shoot. – Places are strictly limited.

Fabulous corporate shoot in Cambridgeshire

A couple of months ago I met a group of lovely friendly business people, running a recruitment firm in Cambridgeshire. – I paid a visit to them in 2017, however, with a few new starters they wanted some fresh imagery.

An enjoyable morning shoot followed by.. plenty of laughter, smiles and work.

Fancy a quick snack..? Catering Shoot | Cambridge College

Fancy a quick snack..? maybe queen leafcutter ants,  buffalo worm and cricket falafel hashara or zataar flatbread made with cricket flour? My advice would be to book a dining spot at the fabulous St Johns College in Cambridge.

Talk about pushing boundaries… the chefs and apprentices at the college embrace the chance to work with some unusual and creative ingredients to create some rather memorable dishes!
A few weeks ago I was working on a stock of visuals for their new marketing material.
I love working at the colleges, their history, architecture and ambience is quite something.
It’s always a challenge to get good lighting, especially in kitchen environments where it can be rather hectic – but a challenge is all part of the job.

I particularly love the image of the waiting staff in the grand dining hall – a few strobes helped to present a strong visual.

Light, Bright Corporate Shoot

I remember the days (gosh I sound somewhat old now!) when I was first commissioned – many years ago – to shoot corporate material. I would arrive and be greeted with bland walls, laminate furniture and horrible lighting.

These days companies – certainly those forward-thinking organisations, have created wonderfully light, bright and attractive places of work. Even older properties have been transformed with colour and those nice little touches. It is really good to see organisations investing in their employees, considering their wellbeing and of course enabling photographers to grab some excellent frames.

This recent work is shot in the company’s offices in Norwich and Cambridge and as with the vast majority of my work, was a joy to shoot.

Cambridge Hackathon

Making regular trips to the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus for various photographic shoots, I have the pleasure of working on some really interesting assignments, recently sitting in on some inspirational speakers and learning about new techniques, ideas and generally educating myself and moving out of the proverbial comfort zone.

This set of images is from a recent shoot with a health network, with various speakers and some fabulous brainstorming. All in, a great day in a superbly inviting and very photogenic space.

Corporate clients invest in photography

I’m fortunate enough to work with a handful of terrific corporate clients who invest in photography – they have ditched cheap universal stock photography and all the associated problems these images bring (the same images on similar businesses etc) and instead believe in creating their own imagery of staff and clients – real people and a real focus on individuals.

Recently I was sent out to the coast to photograph one of their clients, a landlord who has a reputation for providing fabulous property services, as well as renovating some of the gorgeous Victorian properties along the seafront.

Fabulous Business Shoot in Peterborough

Fabulous shoot a couple of weeks ago in Peterborough… lovely people, great building, inspiring tech and shockingly good food…

A long day with the camera gear, saw a variety of shoots throughout the building. People, food and events were the order of the day… timing the food shoots just before lunch enabled us to eat the samples (not all of them.. just the one dish)… bit unusual this, as normally it’s stone cold and heavily ‘made up’ – but the chef prepared it perfectly and it was ready to go on time and looking great.. .no make up required!

A spot of corporate photography in Suffolk

A little more corporate photography recently on the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border… shooting with a couple of strobes and utilizing the gorgeous light from a bright office, some pleasing imagery was achieved.

Lovely little shoot in Waxham, Norfolk

In a few weeks I have the pleasure of photographing the lovely wedding of Ant & Martine in Norfolk.
For a little warm up, we headed to the beach at Waxham, in Norfolk on a beautiful but windy day.
It was a real pleasure shooting images of them, such a fun loving and affectionate couple, who made the photography side of things just perfect.
