Norfolk Schools Opera

Last month, Norfolk Schools Opera held the first opening performance at the Theatre Royal – where schools came together for a day of workshops and performances. – The project will eventually culminate in some outstanding performances in 2019 – Personally I can’t wait to see how the children’s ideas will transform the theatre stage!

“2018-19 Norwich Theatre Royal and Norfolk Music Hub are collaborating in a year-long programme, working with hundreds of pupils, teachers, and young gifted and talented musicians from across Norfolk”

Water, Mills & Marshes Performance

On Wednesday 9 May the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft saw a live performance by pupils of Lowestoft Sixth Form College and Pakefield High School when they concluded their project to compose, record and perform an album of songs inspired by the Broads. The finished album now kicks off a new competition which will see the pupil’s work go ‘on tour’

The pupils drew their inspiration for the album from a trip to Halvergate Marshes where they were able to spend time immersed in the Halvergate area of the Broads National Park. The experience was then used as a muse from which to draw inspiration as they took time in the classroom to work individually and in groups to compose, write and produce their own score of music.

What better way to celebrate Christmas than with a Choir!

The Christmas theme continues this week with two excellent choirs at The Forum, Norwich on Sunday who were raising money for the Big C cancer charity.

Although the weather was rather damp and cold, Broadbeat choir and then Broadland Youth Choir created a fabulous atmosphere within the Forum, insuring everyone left feeling rather festive.

Give a Child a Camera | V3 2018 | Uganda

Give a Child a Camera | V3 2018 | Uganda

I’m really pleased to announce that #Giveachildacamera returns for 2018, where I will be rolling the project out to a group of young vulnerable children on the border with Rwanda.

Give a child a camera is all about providing slightly different opportunties for children in East Africa.
After a little bit of tution the children, (who have not used cameras before) are given their cameras for around a week, where they document their lives in a fascinating fashion.

If you would like to get involved, have an old camera, laptop, equipment or wish to donate to the project please pop along to the project website  https://giveachildacamera.wordpress.com/

The Barber of Seville | Theatre Royal, Norwich

The Barber of Seville was the incredible opera performed to an enthused audience at the Norwich Theatre Royall on Sunday as three Norwich schools (Mile Cross Primary School, Valley Academy & St Augustine’s ) took to the stage & performed their own inspired creations of the Barber of Seville that had been developed over several weeks with the help & guidance from a professional team of musicians & directors.
Soprano was again performed by the lovely Lynsey Docherty, while the guest Baritone spot was taken up by Philip Smith.

Should you ever have the opportunity to go and see one of the Norfolk Schools Projects then I would highly recommend it.

Working with Young people in Saxmundham.. | Photography workshop

The past few days have been an absolute pleasure working with @access_ourwork on a photography project at Saxmundham Youth Booth.
We had a ‘full house’ of inspiring young people who wanted to improve their photography skills and boy did they achieve some stunning results.
Wednesday saw us heading to Dunwich, where a photography workshop was led in the woods, using the rain as a wonderful resource for some stunning creative photography.
Yesterday was spent processing images and fine tuning some street photography techniques in Saxmundham…

The final choices and those that have been printed are really inspiring and show the depth of creativity young people have.
Simply stunning imagery..

PR Shoot in Norwich

Popped along to a lovely little estate near Cringleford, Norwich a couple of weeks ago, to meet a family who had agreed to pose for an upcoming pr campaign.

I had quite a brief to squeeze into a relatively short amount of time, but thankfully managed to meet the objectives.
Although it was cloudy & a little chilly the bright and smiley children were happy to pose and very patient… “just one more” is a phrase they certainly would be pleased not to hear again!

Norfolk & Norwich Festival Garden Party in full swing

The Norfolk & Norwich Festival garden party was in full swing at the weekend, as crowds packed out Chapelfield Gardens to enjoy the free entertainment as part of the wonderful festival activities.
I particularly enjoyed having a go and embracing the retro gaming area… “those were the days” springs to mind…

Fabulous Cycling Festival Rolled to the Seaside

‘Gorleston in Gear’ was the place to be on Sunday, as a fabulous cycling festival rolled into the seaside town.

Kids and adults alike embraced the free cycling festival, which featured a 7 mile family ride, circus bikes, trial bike stunts, children’s bike ability/training and not forgetting the awesome paint bike!
Thankfully the weather embraced the occasion and helped everyone enjoy this spring cycling celebration

Give a child a camera…. what an image

I just love this photograph. Taken at school in Uganda 2016, the children were in the throws of morning assembly, lots of singing and dancing.

As I was shooting a few images I noticed out of the corner of my eye that one of the children was taking photographs.
Given a camera three days prior, I was so pleased to see him shooting images. Wonderful
