Fresh Looking Group Shots in Cambs

Group shots can often offer up several challenges.. In days gone by, photographers would typically line people up – one row standing, one row sitting and bang – that was the shot… thankfully, those times are largely gone and it’s enjoyable to use the space and furniture and create pleasing visuals that portray groups of people in a slightly more interesting way.

Cemex Hackathon | Cambridge

What exactly is a Hackathon? that was the question I was asking about 10 days ago when a booking popped in for a two day shoot in Cambridge working with worldwide brand Cemex.

Arriving at the fabulous Moller Centre, it seems I wasn’t the only one asking that question… However, after two long days, lots of coffee, coca cola and tremendous food – the brains of the 150+ people certainly had a good workout!

Come 4pm on Saturday the final ideas were presented, prizes awarded and the commitment from the company to develop the idea.. what a fab way to generate ideas and ‘move forward’ as a brand.

Chineke! @ Kings College | Cambridge

Had the pleasure of photographing the incredible rehearsals of Chineke! at Kings College Chapel in Cambridge a coupe of weeks ago…

Having heard about Chineke! I was eager to hear them in person and wow… the performance was simply sublime.
The acoustics of Kings College Chapel lent themselves perfectly to the orchestra.

To be there, while the chapel was practically empty during rehearsals was certainly a real treat!

Fabulous Business Shoot in Peterborough

Fabulous shoot a couple of weeks ago in Peterborough… lovely people, great building, inspiring tech and shockingly good food…

A long day with the camera gear, saw a variety of shoots throughout the building. People, food and events were the order of the day… timing the food shoots just before lunch enabled us to eat the samples (not all of them.. just the one dish)… bit unusual this, as normally it’s stone cold and heavily ‘made up’ – but the chef prepared it perfectly and it was ready to go on time and looking great.. .no make up required!

Talented Young Musicians in Cambridge

A recent commission saw me at St Bede’s school in Cambridge for orchestral rehearsals, featuring some of the top musicians of the area as they prepared for their much-anticipated performance.
The young musicians came together at St Bede for Three days of full rehearsals and fine tuning as the school was turned into a real music environment.
The brief was to document some of the musicians, demonstrating their talent, passion and excitement of the rehearsals.
The talent of these youngsters blew me away, especially some of the percussion guys, who had that edgy cool vibe that could quite easily see them ‘hit the big time’ in the future.

Portraiture at Anglia Ruskin | Cambridge

Rather privileged to head back to Anglia Ruskin University to work with a marketing client, obtaining a selection of editorial portraiture for their forthcoming PR use.
Using the interesting surroundings of the Lord Ashcroft Business School, we managed to dodge the harsh sunlight, employ the use of a couple of reflectors and then add a little fill light with a couple of soft boxes

NW Brown @ St Johns College

The splendid grounds of St Johns College in Cambridge played host to the NW Brown summer garden party last week.

Although the event was moved from the lawn to the marquee (good ole British weather!) naturally it still provided a terrific venue and an enjoyable evening for the customers & friends of NW Brown.

Portraiture | Cambridge

Really pleased to be asked to collaborate with an agency who works with universities in Cambridge. They wanted a selection of editorial style portraiture of academics for use in up and coming PR material. The brief required bright and pleasing imagery and nothing overly dramatic.

Working around one of the campus locations, it was an enjoyable day and rather interesting to hear about their work, opinions and insight into their world.

Emotive images from a day shooting in Cambridge

Another set of emotive images from a day shooting in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago.

As well as the usual sights of the colleges, it was both interesting and fun to capture images showing the depth and variety of subject matter available to shoot.

I particularly enjoyed wandering amongst the streets, sipping a coffee and waiting for scenes to unfold – bikes to go along the cobbled streets, a punt to travel under the bridges on the River Cam or the sun to shine on wonderful architecture – a truly enjoyable, if tiring day.

Modern business portraiture in Cambridge

I Shot some enjoyable portraiture this week for the friendly folks at Future business.

The stunning buildings (in Peterborough & Cambridge) are home to dozens of eco and social enterprise businesses and honestly it seems everyone has a smile!

Getting away from the corporate style of photography, they want images that offer a slightly more relaxed and modern feel and I guess images that are more personable – something I love to shoot!
